Take the Locally Delicious Challenge!
For the fifth consecutive year, the Heirloom Tomatoes are challenging our community to meet their donation of $3,000 and help raise funds to contract with local farmers. These Tomatoes are also known as the authors of Locally Delicious: Recipes and Resources for Eating on the North Coast.
St. Joseph’s Health System has matched their donation of $3,000 this year, and the community is also asked to participate. The support of the community is needed to increase the amount of locally grown produce for our programs. Donate to the Locally Delicious Food Fund and help raise money to provide high quality, nutritious produce for our Senior and Homebound programs, while at the same time keeping money in our local economy by supporting our local farmers.
Last year the combined efforts of all resulted in raising $10,500 and allowed us to contract with ten local farms, including Green Fire Farm, Organic Matters Ranch, Flora Organica, Luna Farm, Rain Frog Farm, Neukom Family Farm, Paradise Flat Farm, Produce Peddler, Trident Lightning Farm and New Moon Organics. Collectively, these farmers provided more than 11,000 pounds of fresh produce to our Senior and Homebound Delivery programs. Many of these farmers are also frequent donors to our Gleaning program, who contribute produce leftover at farmers’ markets or invite us to glean at their farms.
Click our Donate Now button for our secure donation page. Choose the Locally Delicious Produce Fund under Program Designation for your donation to be used for this purpose. Thanks to the generosity and creativity of all involved, Food for People will receive thousands of pounds of high quality, nutrient-dense, organic produce from local farmers this coming season.
