Featured Volunteer Needs

Our current featured volunteer needs include:

1. Volunteer Delivery Drivers for our Homebound and Senior Brown Bag programs

We are seeking several volunteer delivery drivers for our Homebound Delivery Program (for persons under age 60 who are homebound for documented medical reasons) and homebound Senior Brown Bag (age 60+) participants. These short routes occur on the first Thursday of each month in the Eureka area. A route typically takes about 1-2 hours. Volunteer delivery drivers start at our Food for People warehouse to pick up route paperwork and bags of food from the program coordinator.

This service means the world to our homebound clients, and is only possible thanks to the generosity of our team of volunteer delivery drivers. If you are interested in helping, please contact us at (707) 445-3166 x310 or

2. Choice Pantry & Warehouse Volunteers at Food for People

We are always looking for help in both the Choice Pantry and the Warehouse at Food for People in Eureka. If you are interested in helping, please contact us at (707) 445-3166 or

  • Choice Pantry volunteers help us assist an average of 1,200 households each month. The Choice Pantry style of food distribution allows people to shop through our pantry and select the foods they want and need, so none goes to waste. Shopping is based on a point system to ensure that folks get a balance of foods across nutritional categories. Volunteers are needed in the pantry to conduct intake interviews and/or to assist folks with their monthly shopping appointments as "shoppers' helpers".
  • Warehouse volunteers assist in a number of our food programs. Activities include sorting and boxing incoming food donations; stocking the Choice Pantry with food items; building food boxes and bags for our senior and homebound programs; assembling emergency bags; sorting fresh produce for distribution; loading and unloading vans; and/or various maintenance tasks.
