Sweet & Spicy Plum Chutney

This sweet and savory chutney can be used as a spread, glaze or as a base for a marinade. Pairs well with sharp cheeses, toasted bread or roasted meats. Try this chutney in place of relish!

INGREDIENTS

  • 10-12 plums or pluots - washed, pitted & diced

  •  1 small red onion, diced

  • 1/2 cup sweetener (honey, cane sugar or agave syrup)

  • 1 tsp. sea salt

  •  1/2-1 tsp. cinnamon

  • Pinch of cloves

  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

  • 2 Tbs. cider vinegar

DIRECTIONS

1. Into a saucepan, add the prepared plums, onion,    sweetener, salt, spices and vinegar. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes while the plums begin to release liquids, stirring the mixture often.

2. Turn burner down to low and continue to cook until the mixture has thickened to desired consistency (30-50 minutes). Stir frequently to avoid burning the sugars on the bottom of the pan.

3. Remove from heat. Once cooled, transfer mixture to a container and store in the fridge for up to one week. Freeze for longer term storage.
