Food Drives
Community members can help through donations of nutritious food during food drives and our Hunger Fighter Challenge. The most needed foods include canned meats and fish, soups and stews, nut butters, and canned fruits and vegetables. Items that cannot be accepted include rusty or bulging cans, foods that are clearly beyond their expiration date, and home-canned items. Please try to avoid donations in glass or cardboard as they can easily crush when combined with heavier canned items. All food collected stays in the community in which it was donated to help local individuals and families in need.

Internships
Internship programs for the fall and spring are designed to last the entire semester, and they require a minimum of 10 hours per week. The availability of internships changes every semester in order to meet the needs of our various programs. Anyone can apply, however accepted applications are typically undergraduate or graduate students in any degree, or those who have completed their degrees in the past 24 months. For most internships, experience with direct client service and/or experience in fields related to other Food for People programs is a plus but is not mandatory.

Plant A Row For The Hungry
Plant a Row for the Hungry is a way for anyone in our community to donate garden-grown produce to our Gleaning Program, from backyard gardens and orchards large and small. Simply drop off your donation at Food for People during business hours, or give us a call to find out where you can donate to a food pantry in your community.

Volunteering with your school
We work with dozens of schools throughout Humboldt County, providing educational opportunities to learn about hunger, healthy eating, building empathy, and giving back to the community. Schools can host food drives that tie into a holiday or what you are teaching in the classroom.
